David Schlessinger is the Senior Investigator and the chief of the Human Genetics Section and the Laboratory of Genetics for the National Institute on Aging at the National Institutes of Health. He holds degrees from University of Chicago and Harvard University, and took a fellowship at the Pastuer Institute in Paris for two years after graduating with his Ph.D. in 1960. In 1962, Washington University hired him as an instructor in molecular microbiology. Schlessinger rose through the ranks to become professor of genetics and director of the Human Genome Center at Washington University School of Medicine in 1987. He left the medical school to join the National Institute on Aging in 1997, where he has remained since then.
