Kenneth M. Ludmerer is the Mabel Dorn Reeder Distinguished Professor in the history of medicine and professor of history at Washington University. He first joined the school as an instructor of internal medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in 1976 and achieved his professorships in 1979. He is best recognized for his scholarly contributions to the history of medicine, particularly with the award-winning books, Learning to Heal: The Development of American Medical Education (1996) and Time to Heal: American Medical Education from the Turn of the Century to the Era of Managed Care (1999). Ludmerer holds degrees from Harvard University and Johns Hopkins University.
