David Goldring was a pioneer in pediatric open-heart surgery who formed the St. Louis Children's Hospital cardiology division in 1950 and directed the department until his retirement in 1985. He briefly served as the hospitals's physician-in-chief for three years in the 1960s. Goldring was also an educator at Washingto University School of Medicine in its department of pediatrics.

Due to his legacy, the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at St. Louis Children's Hospital is named in his honor.
