Yvonne Bost Pickett was born in New Orleans, but grew up in Vandalia, IL.  She attended McMurray College for two years (1933-1935) before transferring to Washington University to complete her nursing degree in 1938.  Mrs. Pickett worked in St. Louis upon graduation until she took a nursing job at Queen’s Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1941.  She remained in Hawaii throughout World War II, and returned to St. Louis in 1945.  She married Frank J. Pickett, a 1941 graduate of the Washington University School of Medicine, who had served with the US Army Air Corps in England during the war.
