Biographical/Historical Note

David Goldring was a pioneer in pediatric open-heart surgery who formed the St. Louis Children's Hospital cardiology division in 1950 and directed the department until his retirement in 1985. He briefly served as the hospitals's physician-in-chief for three years in the 1960s. Goldring was also an educator at Washingto University School of Medicine in its department of pediatrics.

Due to his legacy, the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at St. Louis Children's Hospital is named in his honor.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

[FC106] The personal and professional papers of David Goldring contain two series.  The subject of Series 2 is the history of pediatric cardiology at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Washington University in St. Louis. Series 1 is a subject file on the professional activities and research interests of David Goldring M.D.

Access Restrictions: Box 1-4 of the collection is open and accessible for research. Box 5 contains restricted patient information which is important source material for statistics on the outcome of early heart surgeries at the Washington University Medical Center.  Except for the actual patient records, other material may be redacted.
