Bigger was professor and chief of the Department of Surgery of the Medical College of Virginia from 1930-1955; he served as the 27th president of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery.

Tape of Oral history interview with John Herweg by Candace O'Connor along with her notes from the interview. Two biographical accounts on John Herweg include "In the Interest of Small Children," which was prepared on Herweg's retirement as Associate Dean for Students in 1990 from oral history and other published souces in the archives. It was produced at the request of Library Director, Susan Crawford and M. Kenton King, Danforth Professor of Preventive Medicine.

This collection contains an audio recording and transcript of an interview with Marcel T. Saghir. The interview focuses on his work with the Washington University Gender Identity Clinic in the late 1960s and 1970s.

The interview is approximately 25 minutes long and was conducted by Os Keyes, PhD candidate at the University of Washington.

This small collection includes a presentation Dr. Hudgens gave during the Psychiatry Department grand rounds on October 24, 2000, titled "On the shoulders of giants, a tribute to Samuel B. Guze". An additional accession includes various items related to the School of Medicine student musical "New Facies of 1955" that was organized by the WUSM Class of 1956. Items include three 33 1/3 vinyl records recorded on April 16, 1955, a photograph of Dr. Hudgens singing during the musical, and song lyrics that have been edited by Dr. Hudgens. This collection also includes a brief typed description of Dr. Hudgens experience as a medical student at WUSM (1952-1956) written by Dr. Hudgens.

In her oral history interview, Nash discusses growing up in Atlanta as the child of a successful African-American physician father and music teacher mother. She relates some of her experiences attending Meharry Medical College in the early 1940s and coming to St. Louis for her internship and residency at Homer G. Phillips Hospital. Nash discusses establishing and running a successful solo pediatric practice and the racism and sexism she faced during her professional career. She also discusses her mentor, Park J. White, and some of their experiences fighting segregation in medical care in St. Louis.

Pierce discusses the career of his colleague Alfred Goldman, a 1920 graduate of the Washington University School of Medicine and, for fifty years, a member of the clinical faculty of the school. Pierce describes some of Goldman’s early research on the effect of chilling on the development of upper respiratory disease, the physiology of hyperventilation, and tetany. Goldman’s great skill working and relating to both his patients and with students is described. Pierce comments on Goldman’s careful scholarship and tenacity as a researcher as well as his dedication to his family and to his patients.

This small collection includes medical campus publications and other news articles featuring Dr. Robert Senior, particularly as it relates to his position at Jewish Hospital’s Division of Respiratory and Critical Care and Pulmonary Care Department.  There is also documentation about his prominent role in the 1992 Clover Ball fundraiser which helped to fund a new Respiratory Research Laboratory at Jewish Hospital, as well as other items relating to the general history of Jewish Hospital.  Also included are a diploma and two photographs of Dr. Senior’s father-in-law, Joseph M. Orenstein, a 1930 graduate of the Washington University School of Medicine.

Box 1 contains the program of the scientific symposium honoring Alan L. Schwartz held on October 18, 2016 and five DVDs recording the presentations at the symposium. The speakers include: Louis Muglia, Norman Rosenblum, Jeffrey Saffitz, Arnold Strauss, Aaron Ciechanover, David Ransohoff, Brigitte Gomperts, Jeffrey Gordon, Kenneth Polonsky, and Margaret Hostetter. Also in the collection is the photo album honoring Schwartz made by the faculty, fellow, residents, students, and staff of the Department of Pediatrics and the St. Louis Children's Hospital presented to him on October 18, 2016. There is also a 22 page color printout of a powerpoint presentation entitled "Improving Our Children's Heath Through Research, Education, and Service," presented in September 2015 as the 20th State of Department [of Pediatrics] Address.

Box 2 contains a leatherbound volume illustrated with images from the life and career of Alan L. Schwartz presented to Schwartz at the time of his retirement as the Harriet B. Spoehrer Professor and head of the Department of Pediatrics, October 28, 2016.
