Scope and content

The Augusta Free Hospital for Children of St. Louis, MO (later Martha Parsons) was incorporated in 1884 to care for children with orthopedic ailments. In 1890 the name of the institution was changed to the Martha Parsons Free Hospital, in recognition of the generous contributions of Charles Parsons to the endowment fund as a memorial to his wife. By 1910, the hospital had outgrown its buildings at the southwest corner of Channing Avenue and School Street. Lacking the funds for building a new hospital, the Martha Parsons Free Hospital affiliated with the St. Louis Children's Hospital, which was already planning the construction of a new, modern hospital building. Series 11 includes various administrative materials related to Martha Parsons Hospital, with the majority of the series containing material generating following its affiliation with St. Louis Children’s Hospital in 1910. The series is organized into oversized and standard sized items, with the two sizes then organized chronologically.
