Professional Services Committee and Medical Component (Subcommittee) Meeting Minutes, Correspondence, and Records, 1956-1962.

The Professional Services Committee of the Board of Directors was composed of representatives of the Board of Directors, medical staff, and administration of the hospital, with the Medical Component subcommittee drawn from these members. The Medical Component reported its recommendations to the Professional Services Committee and the Board of Directors. Matters considered by the Medical Component in these records include, but are not limited to, new appointments to the medical staff; developments and changes in various medical departments; new and changing duties of the medical staff; and changes in admissions policies. C.V.s and letters of recommendations for applicants to the medical staff are included, as are lists of medical staff recommended or not recommended for reappointment. Specific issues discussed in these records include, but are not limited to, the admission of African American patients to the outpatient clinic, as well as the acceptance of the applications of African American doctors to the medical staff.
