Administrative history

The Center for History Of Medicine (CfHOM) at Washington University School of Medicine formally opened on the sixth floor of the Bernard Becker Medical Library on October 27, 2011. Although there has been a long history of interest in medical history at the medical school, no formal entity or program was established prior to the creation of the CfHOM. The Center's mission is to enhance scholarship and learning for and by students and faculty at the School of Medicine across Departments and Schools in the University. Three principal goals are: 1) better education of future generations of physicians, scientists, and scholars 2) historical perspective on the evolution of clinical and basic science knowledge, and 3) highlighting many important groundbreaking discoveries and innovations made at WUSM. The Center was proposed to the Executive Faculty of WUSM on January 13, 2010 and was approved by the Executive Faculty and Dean of the School of Medicine at the following meeting on February 3, 2010.
