Scope and content

The photograph was published in the 70th anniversary issue of Saint Louis Children's Hospital News. The accompanying caption for the photograph reads: "Our patients had 'bedside' seats for the St. Louis Police Circus at a special performence given for them in the wards of the Hospital. Acrobats, jugglers, and the well-behaved zebra (above) provided all the thrills of the 'big top.' As for the clowns, it was a case of love at first sight, although it is still being debated as to whether the youngsters enjoyed the clowns any more than the clowns enjoyed the youngsters."
