Title

Medical Public Affairs 35mm Negatives and Contact Sheets, 1978-1986 (VC338)

Date(s)

Extent

6.4 cubic feet (16 boxes)

Scope and content

Approximately 20,000 35mm negatives and approximately 550 contact sheets and photographs featuring faculty, staff, students, and facilities of the Washington University School of Medicine created by the office of Medical Public Affairs from 1982 to 1986.

System of arrangement

The collection is effectively organized chronologically in three series. The series correspond to changes in the numbering system used by Medical Public Affairs in identifying the photoshoots and in labeling the negative strips and contact sheets. The first series begins circa 1978 with the photoshoots numbered sequentially from 1 through 296. The second series begins in 1982 when the photoshoots began to be labled by the Year - MM - DD format. Multiple rolls per photoshoot were given an individually numbered suffix, eg. 1983-07-04-01. The third series begins in 1984 with a return to sequentially numbered photoshoots with the addition of the year as a prefix with the numbering resetting with each new year. Multiple rolls per photoshoot were given an additional alphabetical suffix, eg. 1984-720-U.
