Gary R. Zuckerman earned his D.O. from the University for Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Kansas City and completed his Internal Medicine postgraduate training at Tulsa Regional Medical Center. He subsequently trained as a fellow in gastroenterology at Washington University School of Medicine and then returned to the University of Health Sciences as a gastroenterology faculty member. Following a brief appointment at St. Louis University School of Medicine, he joined the Gastroenterology Division at Washington University School of Medicine in 1975 and spearheaded the clinical program. As of 2019, Charles F. Zorumski is the Samuel B. Guze Professor of Psychiatry and professor of neurobiology at Washington University School of Medicine. His career at Washington University began with his psychiatry in 1978, and in 1997, he became the head of the Department of Psychiatry.
