Anne "Annie B." Brown Short was born April 21, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri. She lived in the St. Louis area throughout her life, graduating from John Burroughs School in 1946, and earned her bachelor's degree in physical therapy from Washington University. She became chief of physical therapy at Washington University's department of physical therapy. She spent the majority of her professional career at the Ranken-Jordan Children's Home.
