Patients riding a "zebra" with clowns assisting them, St. Louis Children's Hospital.

The photograph was published in the 70th anniversary issue of Saint Louis Children's Hospital News. The accompanying caption for the photograph reads: "Our patients had 'bedside' seats for the St. Louis Police Circus at a special performence given for them in the wards of the Hospital. Acrobats, jugglers, and the well-behaved zebra (above) provided all the thrills of the 'big top.' As for the clowns, it was a case of love at first sight, although it is still being debated as to whether the youngsters enjoyed the clowns any more than the clowns enjoyed the youngsters."

Anne M. Perley in a lab coat next to shelves with lab equipment, St. Louis Children's Hospital.

The photograph is torn on both sides. Same as VC008414. Caption from VC008414: "Research into the causes of children's diseases is an important part of the hospital's program. In one research project, atoms are being put to work in the study of diseases of childhood. The Geiger counter shown here is the scientist's principal tool in tracing and measuring radioactive elements, which have been introduced into the body."
