Medical Staff Association Memorial Files, 1986-2006.

Included in this series are Medical Staff Association requests for memorial funds and plaques for deceased staff members. The requests for memorial plaques generally include multiple names. Items attached to these letters are related to the deceased staff member and may include an obituary, staff card, condolence note, memorial donation note, and other biographical information. Names are only listed for those who have additional information included in their files beyond the group memorial plaque request letter. Staff members who served at Barnes, Jewish, and Barnes-Jewish Hospital are all included in this series. Series is ordered by date of request for memorial funds, which was generally within a few months after the staff member's death. The Barnes-Jewish Medical Staff Association lists its purpose as to unite, “the members of the full-time and voluntary faculty of Washington University School of Medicine in a cooperative effort to develop and maintain the highest standard of care for their patients and to collaborate in advancing medical education and research.” The Jewish Hospital Medical Staff Association, which is the source of some of these records, was described in 1913 as being, “composed of the following: Surgeon-in-Chief, Physician-in-Chief, Surgeon, Physician, Obstetrician, Pediatrician, Ophthalmologist, Laryngologist, Otologist, Orthopedist, Neurologist, Dermatologist, Gynecologist, and such associates, alternate associates and assistant in the various departments as may be appointed by the Board of Directors.”
