Portrait of Dr. Elisha Hall Gregory by Strauss Studio.

Gregory was a professor of anatomy at the St. Louis Medical College from 1852 to 1867 and later was professor of surgery at the College and Washington University until his death in 1906. Blair had been a student at the St. Louis Medical College when Gregory was on the faculty and was greatly influenced by his conversations with the professor.

Dr. Vilray P. Blair's plastic surgery amphitheater in the Rand-Johnson surgical wing at Barnes Hospital was specially decorated by artist Gisella Loeffler. This section of the mural depicts a seen reminiscent of the fairy tale "The Town Musicians of Bremen" with a rooster, cat, and dog riding on the back of a donkey.
