This small collection consists of three series. Series 1 consists of biographical information about Louis Crusius collected by the St. Louis Medical Society. Series 2 includes two publications with illustrations by Louis Cruisius, and Series 3 contains the Antikamnia calendars illustrated by Cruisus.

Vilray P. Blair Photographs and Drawings

This collection consists of 85 photographs and drawings documenting a range of subjects in the personal and professional life of Dr. Vilray P. Blair (1871-1955). The collection includes photographs of Blair, his family and colleauges, and his residence in Florissant, Missouri. Other depicted subjects from Blair's professional career include his operating room at Barnes Hospital specially decorated by artist Gisella Loeffler (1900-1977), his plaster cast shop, and a selection of his plastic surgery patients. Several of the patient photographs appear in Dr. Blair's published papers, including: "The Surgical Restoration of the Lining of the Mouth" (1923), "The Full Thickness Skin Graft" (1924), and "The Problem of Bringing Forward the Retracted Upper Lip and Nose" (1926).

This collection consists of 36 photographs and slides from the personal and professional life of Justin J. Cordonnier. Depicted subjects include group portraits of Barnes Hospital staff and the Clinical Society of Genito-Urinary Surgeons, composite portraits that include Cordonnier, and scenes from the East London Hospital for Children. The slides depict silverware, serving dishes, and furniture, likely items that belonged to Cordonnier.

This small collection comprises a number of Dr. Berg’s notebooks.  They include his typed and handwritten notes on topics such as anatomy, bacteriology, chemistry, and pharmacology.  Of particular note is the “Guide to the Study of Neurology” (Box 2, Folder 4) which was produced by the WUSM Department of Anatomy, but includes notes and drawings added by Berg.

Evarts A. Graham Memorabilia

This collection consists of 103 certificates, medals, plaques, academic hoods, and miscellaneous memorabilia documenting the career of Evarts A. Graham. The certificates include degree certificates, honorary degree and fellowship certicates, award certificates, and memorial certificates from the Barnes Hospital Board of Trustees, the American College of Surgeons, and the State of Missouri. Medals, pins, and medallions include the French Legion D'Honneur Medal, the Lister Medal awarded by the Royal College of Surgery of England, the American Cancer Society Award Medal, among various award medals, distinguished service medals, and medical society medals. Miscellany includes a stethoscope owned by Graham, a Journal of Thoracic Surgey, Graham's application and membership cards to the St. Louis Medical Society, and a copy of a letter from Graham to Ernest Wynder informing Wynder of his cancer diagnosis.

This collection contains personal and professional files, publications, correspondence, photographs, and 35 mm. slides. Personal files include biographical information, correspondence, and related documents, as well as funeral and obituary information. Bain's professional files include documentation related to her work with Alpha Omega Alpha, St. Louis Children's Hospital, UNICEF, and the World Health Organizaiton Expert Advisory Panel. Publications include a selection of Bain's reprints and articles written by others as well as commercial catalogs. The majority of the photographs in the collection are personal family photographs, but some photographs are related to Bain's work with UNICEF and St. Louis Children's Hospital. The slides primarily depict Bain's extensive travels on behalf of UNICEF in the 1960s. The collection includes the original slides as well as two CDs containing digital surrogates of the originals.

This collection consists of 15 photographs from the Washington University School of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology. The photographs are primarily group shots of staff and post-graduate students from the mid-20th century. Also included in this collection are photographs of Evarts A. Graham and Robert A. Moore that have inscriptions to Theodore E. Walsh, who was the head of the Otolaryngology Department from 1940 until his retirement in 1966.

Hallowell Davis Oral History

These interviews begin with Davis’s studies at Harvard and his post-graduate study in England. Davis discusses his research on the electrophysiology of the auditory system and electrical activity of the brain and his defense work during World War II studying human tolerance to loud sounds. Davis describes the establishment of a research department at the Central Institute for the Deaf and work on hearing tests and speech audiometry, including the development of the first American standards for audiometers. Davis describes then-current methods in electro-physiology to measure peripheral hearing of young children by detecting electrical responses in the brain. The interview ends with a brief discussion of the problems related to world overpopulation, pollution, and international relations.

The transcript presents an edited version of the sound recording. The interview begins with a biographical sketch of Hallowell Davis, and ends with a revised biographical sketch. Interviewed by Estelle Brodman on April 6, 1977 and April 28, 1977. OH027. Approximate Length 2 hours, 45 minutes.

The Jacob G. Probstein papers include short transcripts of at least two oral history interviews with Probstein on Jewish Hospital (1977), Probstein's short histories of the pancreatitis research group: "Sam Gray/ Michael Somogyi/ May Fund and Pancreatis"(1979), and two letters from Helen Graham about Evarts A. Graham(1965-1968). The Jacob G. Probstein reprints, 1924-1970 are the bulk of the material. The focus of the oral histories are Jewish Hospital of St. Louis, its chiefs of surgery, its patients (the Jewish community), its donors, the role of nurses and nurse administrators, Dr. Michael Somogyi and the pancreatitis and diabetes research group, the clinics, and early operative techniques in the old Delmar location of the hospital.
