Operating room of Vilray P. Blair.

Dr. Vilray P. Blair's plastic surgery amphitheater in the Rand-Johnson surgical wing at Barnes Hospital was specially decorated by artist Gisella Loeffler. This view of the two story wall of the surgical amphitheater shows illustrations of Jake and the Beanstalk and the Cat and the Fiddle and the Cow jumping over the Moon.

Gregory was a professor of anatomy at the St. Louis Medical College from 1852 to 1867 and later was professor of surgery at the College and Washington University until his death in 1906. Blair had been a student at the St. Louis Medical College when Gregory was on the faculty and was greatly influenced by his conversations with the professor.
