Reprints of 99 scientific articles authored or co-authored by Goldring, in a bound volume titled "Publications of Sidney Goldring, M.D." Subjects include epilepsy, surgical treatment of epilepsy, seizure disorders, and neuroglia.

Butcher's files document his career and those of his colleagues such as Evarts A. Graham, Peter Heinbecker, Carl Moyer and Eugene M. Bricker. Included are correspondence and clippings about the Washington University School of Medicine, its Department of Surgery, and Barnes Hospital, as well as journal reprints and the texts of several lectures delivered by Butcher.

Biographical sketch of Isaac Alexander Bigger, Jr., M.D. (1893-1955), written at the request of the American Association of Thoracic Surgery. Bigger was professor and chief of the Department of Surgery of the Medical College of Virginia from 1930-1955; he served as the 27th president of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery.

This collection contains two folders.

The John D. Vavra Papers are organized into 4 Series: 1. Correspondence to Family Members During Military Service, 1946-1947. 2. Correspondence, 1964-1986. 3. Manuscript for Unpublished, Unfinished Book on Medical Ethics, 1980. 4. Letters to Margaret Wallace (Margaret Vaughn) 1965-1968.

Collection includes correspondence with the Washington University School of Medicine Archives staff regarding 21st General Hospital, its history, records, members, and reunions. Also includes unpublished manuscripts about the 21st General Hospital, correspondence between Cady and other members of the unit, and reprints of several journal articles authored by Cady in the 1920s. "A Cady Saga" is a family genealogy completed by Cady in 1983.

Bound volumes of the collected scientific publications of W. Maxwell Cowan. Most deal with neurology and the neurosciences, specifically neuroanatomy and neurobiology.

Four bound volumes of Philip Needleman's scientific reprints, 1961-1986. Topics include the following: arachidonic acid metabolism in normal and pathological states, atrial peptides, organic nitrates and angiotensin antagonists. Philip Needleman's curriculum vitae is in the first volume (I, II)

The items in this collection represent different aspects of Dr. Schwartz’s personal and professional life. Series 1 (General Hospital 21) and Series 2 (Consultant in Neurosurgery, Vietnam) contain files relating to Dr. Schwartz’s military service. Another important segment of this collection is comprised of his lecture notes in Series 3. The remaining series include photographs, certificates, films and videotapes, memorabilia, and the many awards Dr. Schwartz received throughout his lifetime.

Reprints, abstracts, research notes covering Burch's work in the fields of nutrition and metabolism. Correspondence files are arranged chronologically.

Summary: Chiefly reprints of Daughaday's scientific publications and book chapters dealing with endocrinology, metabolism, diabetes, growth hormones, dwarfism, and gigantism. Also Daughaday's memoir "The first 10 years of the Metabolism Division, 1951-1961" (5 leaves).

Bernard Becker papers acquired by rare book librarian in Rare Book Accession 2008-001 and accessioned as Archives Accession 2010-004:
1) One bound volume of congratulatory letters given to Dr. Becker on the occasion of his 25th anniversary as chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, April 27th, 1979.

2) Two 5x7 inch silver gelatin photographs of the staff of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, the first dated circa 1954, the second dated circa 1979.
3) One pamphlet for the occasion of the 25th anniversary including a list of contributors toward an endowment fund in honor of Bernard Becker, April 27th, 1979.

The collection consists of an unbound typescript manuscript, "History of dermatology in St. Louis, Missouri" (1973, 274 leaves) and a later bound version of the manuscript, "Dermatology and Dermatologists in St. Louis" ([1984], 372 leaves). The earlier version contains photographs, letters, clippings, and other documents. Both versions are indexed. Included are histories of the Barnard Free Skin and Cancer Hospital, the Barnes Hospital dermatology staff, and the St. Louis Dermatological Society, and biographical information about 19th and 20th century St. Louis dermatologists.

The files in this collection have been arranged into three organizational series: professional meetings, personal correspondence, and laboratory notebooks and lectures. The Sonnenwirth Papers are comprised of files that were recovered from his office at the Microbiology Laboratory of Jewish Hospital. The original file order and folder titles have been maintained. Note that Series 1 (Professional Meetings), which relates to Sonnenwirth’s activities in various professional associations, comprises a significant portion of this collection. The approximate dates of the contents are indicated in the container listing, which follows.

This collection is comprised mostly of Dr. Cori's personal and professional correspondence, although a few series contain materials relating to his research.

The collection is comprised primarily of correspondence regarding Minnich’s professional associations, though there is some representation of her personal correspondence. Of special note is the correspondence relating to her associations with Indonesian and Turkish laboratory personnel. Also included is material from Minnich’s membership in professional societies including their annual meeting programs and newsletters. The collection also includes parts of Minnich’s research including drafts of research articles, notebooks, photographic prints, contact prints, slides, graphs, and hand drawings of microscopic slides. Some of the documents in this series do not appear to be in alphabetical order, but they have been left in the original files.

Hamburger discusses major points in his long career as an embryologist – his early work in Germany with Hans Spemann and the study of the organizer effect; his experience coming to the United States in 1932 as a Rockefeller fellow and staying on after Hitler’s “cleansing of the professions” in Germany; joining the faculty of Washington University and his research there. Hamburger talks about his colleagues such as Rita Levi-Montalcini and their discovery of naturally occurring neuronal death, his work with Levi-Montalcini and Stanley Cohen on the discovery of nerve growth factor (NGF), and his study of animal behavior development and motility.

Reprints of 54 scientific papers of Fischbach published between 1969 and 1983. Fischbach's research has centered on the formation and maintenance of synapses, the junctions between nerve cells and their targets through which information is transferred, and specifically the neuromuscular junction.

The Ogura papers include five document series including general correspondence, research manuscripts, appointment calendars, medical school notes, and reprints. In terms of subjects, the general correspondence includes Ogura’s editorial work for The Laryngoscope and peer reviews for other journals, as well as professional associations to which Ogura gave much time. Of local interest is material on Barnes Hospital, Jewish Hospital, but mostly on the administration of the department of Otolaryngology in the Washington University School of Medicine.

The research manuscripts and reprints cover his clinical research interests in head and neck surgery, laryngeal physiology and transplantation, and nasopulmonary mechanics. Formats of the paper documents include correspondence, department records, notebooks, manuscripts, and reprints. The reprints are a sampling of his 300 published articles.
