Eller, Director General (left). The gavel was made from a piece of wood from each of the 22 nations of the western hemisphere and symbolizes the welding together of American Nations through medicine. The Delegation met with President Eisenhower at The White House, October 9, 1959, to discuss the forthcoming medical congress to be held in Mexico City, May 2-11, 1960.
