Curriculum vitae, 1997, and drafts and supporting materials on two of Mueller's projects on the history of medicine. For the history of McMaster University Medical School there is the draft of Part I. For the writing of Evarts A. Graham, the life, lives, and times of the surgical spirit of St. Louis (Hamilton, ON, 2002), there are interviews, notes, drafts, and other materials compiled. Of special interest are files containing original correspondence from various persons relating their memories of Graham. There is also an oral history of Frank R. Bradley by Peter D. Olch, original materials about Helen T. Graham and about Olch and his father I. Y. Olch.

A collection relating to Beatrice Schulz’s schooling, career, her work as a consultant in Pakistan in 1967, and “historical material” on the Program in Physical Therapy at Washington University School of Medicine.  Photographs of former medical directors and program administrators, various group portraits from organizations to which Schulz belonged have been placed in the visual collection.  Various certificates have been retained with the collection.

This collection consists of 41 photographs and certificates from David Goldring, including items separated from the David Goldring Papers (FC106).

This collection includes 37 certificates and artifacts documenting the professional and scientific achievements of Joseph Erlanger. Certificates and medallians include various honorary degree diplomas, award certificates and medallions, and scientific society membership certificates. The collection also includes various academic hoods, an academic gown, Erlanger, Gasser and Bishop's home-made cathode ray tube, and the death mask of Erlanger.

This collection consists of 18 digital surrogates of photographs depicting C. Barber Mueller throughout his career. Three of the photographs are foreground selections of VC063015 superimposed on different backgrounds.

Most of the documents are course catalogs or commencement programs which are arranged in short series according to academic name. There are only a few unpublished items in the collection, including the notes of a Barnes medical student (1899-1900) and several Barnes Dental College contracts (1908-1915 with related letter).

This collection consists of 203 photographs, certificates, maps, drawings, x-rays, and stone and bone artifacts documenting Robert J. Terry's professional career and his hobbies. The collection includes many photographs of Terry from his student days at Cornell, Edinburgh University, and Missouri Medical College, through his career as Head of the Department of Anatomy at Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM). Additionally, the collection includes x-rays and photographs documenting anatomical research Terry conducted, photographs of the WUSM Department of Anatomy, and stone and bone artifacts from archaeological findings in Missouri, France, and England. Finally, the collection also includes Terry's academic regalia worn to WUSM graduation ceremonies as a faculty member.

Scrapbooks compiled originally by the WUSM Public Relations Office include clippings, brochures, and reprinted articles mainly from St. Louis newspapers and campus sources. These materials describe a wide range of activities of faculty, staff and their departments and divisions. The WUSM Public Relations Office was an earlier incarnation of Medical Public Affairs.

This collection includes items related to Barnes Hospital. From the bequest which funded the creation of the hospital; to the hospital’s opening at the end of 1914; and continuing up to and beyond its merger with Jewish Hospital in 1996, the history of Barnes Hospital is documented in a variety of material formats. The collection includes administrative records; staff correspondence; hospital publications; newspaper and magazine clippings; scrapbooks; photographs; VHS tapes; and artifacts. Of note is the collection of hospital publications (series 4), which includes serial magazines and annual reports of the hospital, as well as ephemera such as brochures and flyers. Also noteworthy is the hospital superintendent’s correspondence collection (series 3) covering the years 1913-1926; the hospital’s book of forms from the year of its opening (series 1); a scrapbook containing correspondence of Robert A. Barnes and the original trustees of Barnes Hospital (series 8); and the Hospital's Staff Register covering October 13, 1915 to January 13, 1958 (series 5).

The Frank R. Bradley Papers cover the years from 1914 to shortly before his death and consist of nine series. A history of Barnes Hospital by Dr. Bradley is an important series in this collection. He died before completing his final revision of the manuscript. Also of interest is the series on the development and use of the airline-style food services for patients at Barnes Hospital. Dr. Bradley and Henrietta Becker, administrative dietician at Barnes, adapted the hot and cold food cases used to serve airline passengers for use in the hospital. This creative way to keep hot food hot and cold food cold and to control food handling and portion size through greater use of a central food preparation area aroused the interest of hospital administrators and dietitians nationwide. Bradley needed a form letter to reply to all those eager for information about the new-style food service.

Agress discusses his medical studies at Washington University School of Medicine (St. Louis, Mo.) and the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, Minn.); his service in World War II with the U.S. Army, 21st General Hospital, in Algeria, Italy, and France; and his civilian practice in St. Louis as a physician and pathologist. He speaks about some of his professors and colleagues, including Evarts A. Graham, Ernest Sachs, and Lee D. Cady, and some of his experiences at the Jewish Hospital of St. Louis. Boyd recounts some of his experiences as a student at the Washington University School of Medicine in the 1920s and his recollections of instructors such as Barney Brooks and David Barr. Also covered are some of Boyd’s experiences as a general practitioner in Houston, Texas, especially during the Depression. Interviewed by Darryl Podoll on May 13, 1976. OH023. Cook talks about Dr. Jesse S. Myer, gastroenterologist and biographer of William Beaumont. Cook also relates some of his experiences as a medical student in the early years of the 20th century and as an intern at St. Louis City Hospital. He describes the practice of medicine at that time and the prevalence and treatment of diseases such as typhoid fever, malaria, and syphilis.

Lowry discusses the life and work of Helen Tredway Graham, a member of the department of pharmacology of the Washington University School of Medicine from 1925-1971. Gilson discusses the research and activities of the Department of Physiology at the Washington University School of Medicine in the 1920s and 1930s and several of his colleagues, such as Joseph Erlanger, Herbert Gasser, and George Bishop. He also talks of the axonologists, a discussion group first formed in 1930 at an American Physiological Society meeting.
