Events, 1900-1993.

Series 2 contains two sub-series which each include materials related to discrete events in Jewish Hospital’s history. Sub-series 1 contains a list of items found in the 1901 Jewish Hospital building cornerstone, as well as some of, but not all, of the 1901 cornerstone contents. It also contains newspaper clippings related to the 1972 dedication of the Forest Park Pavilion cornerstone. Sub-series 2 documents the 1962 outbreak of infectious hepatitis among Jewish Hospital staff. Outside of the two sub-series, Series 2 also includes event programs for commencements, dances, banquets, balls, and other formal events related to the hospital, its buildings, its school of nursing, and other hospital-related organizations.

Cornerstones, 1901 and 1972.

The first Jewish Hospital building, located at 5815 Delmar Boulevard, had a hollow cornerstone, laid on May 16, 1901. (The building was completed exactly a year later.) The building was razed in 1958 to make way for the St. Louis Masonic Home (now itself demolished). The administration of the Masonic Home presented the items in this series to the Hospital at that time. Also included is a file containing newspaper clippings of articles on the laying of the cornerstone of the Forest Park Pavilion in1972. Accession 1990-035.
