Interviews and Oral Histories, 1948-1997 [bulk dates 1991-1997].

This series contains the transcripts of three interviews conducted with Dr. Bain in the 1990s and some contextual materials, including:

  • An interview with Dr. Bain and her sister, Marian Bain White, conducted by a family member over two sessions, 1991-1992;
  • An oral history with Dr. Bain, conducted by Gretchen Antelman, Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, January 15, 1992;
  • An oral history with Dr. Bain, conducted as part of the American Academy of Pediatrics Oral History Project, December 12, 1996.

Biographical Documents, Notebooks, and Correspondence, 1906-1998, undated.

This series includes biographical materials, personal correspondence, steno notebook diaries kept by Dr. Bain, and collected newspaper clippings. The biographical materials include biographical statements, curriculum vitae (CVs), and bibliographies of published work.

Notable correspondence includes a letter written by a young Dr. Bain to her sister, dated 1906 (see Box 1, Folder 4), and correspondence from Dr. Bain’s longtime friend and housemate, Christine Glass (see Box 1, Folder 6). Also of note is an issue of “The Bain Banner,” a family newsletter with biographical stories about Dr. Bain with recollections by friends and family (see Box 1, Folder 3).

The series also includes a copy of the finding aid from the Katherine Bain Papers, 1920-1976, held by the State Historical Society of Missouri (see Box 1, Folder 15).

Digital Files and Analog and Digital Storage Media, circa 1960s-1999.

This series includes digital surrogates of 35mm photographic slides and an audio recording of an interview with Dr. Bain; and digital files of an issue of a family newsletter, a video of Dr. Bain’s 100th birthday party, and eulogies for Dr. Bain.

The series is organized into two sub-series based on storage medium. Sub-series 1 contains the digital surrogates and files stored in Becker Archives’ digital archives. Sub-series 2 contains the digital surrogates and files in the original analog and digital storage media.
