Robert J. Glaser Photographs and Drawings

This collection consists of 15 photographs of Robert J. Glaser and 23 drawings by Aphrodite J. Hofsommer. Photographs include group portraits of the Harvard University Lancet Club, views from a Boston City Hospital Centennial and Thorndike Memorial Laboratory 40th anniversary event, views of the Streptococcal Clinic at Washington University School of Medicine, and scenes from a dinner party with Glaser and Arthur Kornberg. The drawings were created by Aphrodite J. Hofsommer for publications by Drs. Ernest Sachs, Meyer Wiener, Bennet Y. Alvis, Ellis Fischel, and others, in the 1920s and 1930s.

Stewart briefly discusses her experiences in medical school at the Washington University School of Medicine, her remembrances of professor Ernest Sachs, and her internship at St. Louis Maternity Hospital. Stewart recounts the beginning of the first contraceptive clinic in St. Louis, the Maternal Health Association of Missouri (later Planned Parenthood of St. Louis), and some of its founders, Frederick J. Taussig, Robert J. Crossen, and Helen Buss. She also recalls her work at the clinic and its development over the years. The interview concluded with a discussion about problems with medical malpractice insurance and the rising cost of medical care. Audio quality of interview is poor. Interviewed by William R. This collection predominantly consists of Dr. Terry’s professional correspondence.  There are multiple series of correspondence which have remained separated and in the same arrangement as they were received by Dr. Terry.  There are also a number of reprints and publications in this collection, most of which were authored by Dr. Terry.  Most of Dr. Terry’s reprints have been bound together and placed into Series 1.  Also of note in this collection are two different series of research notes and drafts of papers on Sprengel’s deformity and fluid in the lungs.

The Frederick J. Taussig Reprints are a collection of 36 scientific articles authored by Fred J. Taussig. The major subjects covered in Dr. Taussig’s articles include abortion and cancer of the vulva, cervix and vagina. Many of the articles contain case studies of patients seen at Barnard Free Skin and Cancer Hospital, St. Louis City Hospital, Washington University Hospital, and Barnes Hospital.
