Curriculum vitae, scientific manuscripts, and collected reprints of shorter scientific publications, in three binders, 1948-1994.

The Eli Robins papers are arranged in twenty-seven organizational series on the administration of the Psychiatry Department from 1962-1975 and the research of the Eli Robins labs.  The bulk of the collection is in the General Correspondence files (Series 4), General files (Series 5), Associations and Societies (Series 6), and Laboratory Notebooks and Records (Series 19).  Included in the Robins papers are letters, a complete set of Journal articles (Series 1), and handwritten notes. In addition, there are drafts of articles that Dr. Robins and members of his lab compiled for publication and corresponding data collection documents used for research and analysis.

Early records on research include correspondence and laboratory and specimen notebooks, ca. 1955-1975. Later papers consist of correspondence, photos, NIH and tobacco grants, patents, lecture slides, reprints (including correspondence), newspaper articles, files on meetings, appointment calendars, reprints, and books.

Two bound volumes of reprints on the vestibulo-ocular reflex and other neurobiological topics. A list of contents for each volume is bound in at the beginning.

This small collection includes items relating to Samuel Grant and his two sons John M. Grant and Neville Grant, all of whom were faculty members at Washington University.  The collection includes two different drafts (1992 and 2005) of John M. Grant's manuscript "A hierarchical model of living systems" as well as photographs of each of the men.

Prospectus and manuscripts for "Time to Heal" and three notebooks compiled by Ludmerer as house officer at Barnes Hospital, June 23 to December 28, 1978 concerning patients in his care (Confidential materials: name of patients may not be duplicated or divulged by users of collection).

The collection contains Lorraine Lake’s MA thesis and PhD dissertation, correspondence from when she was faculty in the Program in Physical Therapy and associate director of the Irene Walter Johnson Institute of Rehabilitation, and a scrapbook and other materials related to the IWJ Institute of Rehabilitation.

A collection relating to Beatrice Schulz’s schooling, career, her work as a consultant in Pakistan in 1967, and “historical material” on the Program in Physical Therapy at Washington University School of Medicine.  Photographs of former medical directors and program administrators, various group portraits from organizations to which Schulz belonged have been placed in the visual collection.  Various certificates have been retained with the collection.

The Samuel B. Guze Papers are arranged in eleven organizational series. The bulk of this large collection is contained in Series 3 (General Files) and Series 5 (Manuscripts). Included in the Guze Papers are letters, journal articles, and handwritten notes. However, a significant portion of the collection consists of drafts of articles that Dr. Guze and his colleagues compiled for publication, as well as the corresponding data collection documents used for research and analysis. Especially noteworthy in the Guze Papers are the two oral histories taken with Dr. Guze, as well as his personal diary located in Series 10. Files pertaining to "Mission to Thailand," ("Our Heritage" series, St. Louis Metropolitan Medicine, 2002, July,:2001). They include 2002 letters from Ben Eiseman and Frank Vellios. The letters contain their reminiscences of Washington University program in Thailand in the early 1950s as part of the Medical Education Exchange Program. Documents from 1952 Dean's correspondence are a controversial "Coronet" magazine article on Eiseman, March 1952 and Robert A. Moore's report on medical education in Thailand.

The Lee Robins Papers consist of twelve organizational series on Lee Robins' research and her family.  The research studies (Series 1) and Interview schedules (Series 2) are the most noteworthy materials and the bulk of the collection.   Also included are family and professional photographs (Series 5), a full set of journal articles (Series 3), and her correspondence (Series 6-8) and manuscripts (Series 4) from her retirement.  Noteworthy in the biographical series (Series 9-10) are the SCRD oral history interviews with Lee Robins (also online) and typed interviews for a biography of Eli Robins.

The Frank O. Richards papers contains statistical and narrative pertaining primarily to Homer G. Phillips Hospital, the St. Louis municipal hospital founded and operated for African Americans in 1937, but also to two other institutions, City Hospital No. 2 and the Peoples’ Hospital, that treated black patients during decades of official racial segregation. Included are files on William H. Sinkler, medical director of Phillips Hospital from 1941 until 1960. The files in Box 1 in particular document the writing of his chapter, “The St. Louis Story,” in A Century of Black Surgeons. Box 2 contains later additions, notably an undergraduate thesis by Dean Lee Kolnick (2003) on Homer G. Phillips Hospital.

The Ronald G. Evens Papers contain newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, reprints, photographs, tapes, and artifacts which document the career of Dr. Ronald Evens. The material mainly covers the period following Dr. Evens’ graduation from Washington University School of Medicine in 1964, and encompasses his time as Director of Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, Chairman of the Washington University School of Medicine Department of Radiology, and Radiologist-in-Chief at Barnes and St. Louis Children’s Hospital, beginning in 1971. The material also encompasses Dr. Evens’ time as president of St. Louis Children’s Hospital (1986-1988), and his leadership within professional organizations such as the American College of Radiology and the American Roentgen Ray Society. The collection is divided into six series, with series 1, containing pages from three scrapbooks kept by Dr. Evens, and series 6, containing artifacts belonging to Dr. Evens, being especially of note.

FC149 (Marshall B. Conrad collection): Eulogies, obituaries (2004), and a genealogy composed by the donor, Joann Conrad (2005).

In his 2006 oral history, Milder discusses growing up in St. Louis and his career as an ophthalmologist. He reminisces about his classmates and professors at medical school, the history of the practice of ophthalmology in St. Louis, and talks about some of his published books.

Files containing documents and information compiled by and about Drs. Irene E. Karl (1915-2006) and Michael M. Karl (1915-2006). Correspondence, scientific papers and publications, documents concerning the Karl Lectureship, press releases and press coverage of the Karls' careers and achievements. A copy of the 28th ed of Manual of Medical Therapeutics (1995) inscribed and dedicated to Michael Karl (to be retained with collection as an artifact). The files and items were given as one collection, with no overall discernable order.

Curriculum vitae, 1997, and drafts and supporting materials on two of Mueller's projects on the history of medicine. For the history of McMaster University Medical School there is the draft of Part I. For the writing of Evarts A. Graham, the life, lives, and times of the surgical spirit of St. Louis (Hamilton, ON, 2002), there are interviews, notes, drafts, and other materials compiled. Of special interest are files containing original correspondence from various persons relating their memories of Graham. There is also an oral history of Frank R. Bradley by Peter D. Olch, original materials about Helen T. Graham and about Olch and his father I. Y. Olch.
