This collection consists of material mostly from the year 1964, which was the year when the dispute between the medical school and Edgar M. Queeny, speaking for the Barnes Hospital Trustees, reached a point when there was practically no area of the joint operation on which the two institutions could agree.

Material regarding Carl V. Moore’s appointment as the first Vice Chancellor for Medical Affairs is included, as well as correspondence from M. Kenton King, Dr. Dempsey’s successor as Dean. The text of Dr. Dempsey’s resignation as Dean, his curriculum vitae and his obituary from 1975 are also included in the papers.

This collection consists of 30 composite portraits of Barnes Hospital staff, 1963-1987. Portraits include Private Medical Service House Staff, Ward Medical Service House Staff, Interns, Residents, and General Surgery Staff.

This collection consists of 43 group portraits of Barnes Hospital Medical and Surgical staff from 1919-1952.

This collection consists of 16 photographs and certificates from the career of James L. O'Leary. The photographs primarily depict scenes from Vilray P. Blair's operating room and group portraits. Certificates include a William G. Lennox Award certificate, a Certificate of Distinguished Service from the American Epilepsy Society, and several certificates of appreciation.

This collection consists of 16 photographs from the professional life of Dr. Hiromu Tsuchiya (1887-1971). Depicted subjects include portraits of Tsuchiya and his colleagues and Barnes Hospital annual staff photographs.

Thsi collection consists of 12 Photographs and a card from John D. Vavra, primarily group portraits of the Washington University School of Medicine Division of Hematology. The card is an admittance to practice medicine at City Hospital of St. Louis for a Mr. Gustavus Buck, dated 1881.

This collection includes items related to Barnes Hospital. From the bequest which funded the creation of the hospital; to the hospital’s opening at the end of 1914; and continuing up to and beyond its merger with Jewish Hospital in 1996, the history of Barnes Hospital is documented in a variety of material formats. The collection includes administrative records; staff correspondence; hospital publications; newspaper and magazine clippings; scrapbooks; photographs; VHS tapes; and artifacts. Of note is the collection of hospital publications ( series 4), which includes serial magazines and annual reports of the hospital, as well as ephemera such as brochures and flyers. Also noteworthy is the hospital superintendent’s correspondence collection ( _series 3)_covering the years 1913-1926; the hospital’s book of forms from the year of its opening ( series 1); a scrapbook containing correspondence of Robert A. Barnes and the original trustees of Barnes Hospital ( _series 8);_and the Hospital's Staff Register covering October 13, 1915 to January 13, 1958 ( series 5).

O'Neal shares his memories of medical school and instructors such as Evarts A. Graham; internship and residency at Barnes Hospital; and his career as a surgeon.

Prospectus and manuscripts for "Time to Heal" and three notebooks compiled by Ludmerer as house officer at Barnes Hospital, June 23 to December 28, 1978 concerning patients in his care (Confidential materials: name of patients may not be duplicated or divulged by users of collection).

The Sherwood Moore papers include correspondence, notes, reports, manuscripts, and reprints of articles. They document Dr. Moore’s interests in radiology, cholescystography, hospital administration, and his involvement in the work of Barnes Hospital, Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, St. Louis Maternity Hospital, the School of Medicine administration, and the Department of Radiology.

This collection consists of 85 photographs and drawings documenting a range of subjects in the personal and professional life of Dr. Vilray P. Blair (1871-1955). The collection includes photographs of Blair, his family and colleauges, and his residence in Florissant, Missouri. Other depicted subjects from Blair's professional career include his operating room at Barnes Hospital specially decorated by artist Gisella Loeffler (1900-1977), his plaster cast shop, and a selection of his plastic surgery patients. Several of the patient photographs appear in Dr. Blair's published papers, including: "The Surgical Restoration of the Lining of the Mouth" (1923), "The Full Thickness Skin Graft" (1924), and "The Problem of Bringing Forward the Retracted Upper Lip and Nose" (1926).

Shepley recounts the reorganization of the Washington University School of Medicine and its affiliated hospitals into WUMSAH (Washington University Medical School and Affiliated Hospitals). He discusses the conflict between the School of Medicine and the board of Barnes Hospitals, and the roles of the individuals involved in the formation of WUMSAH, including Edgar M. Queeny, Edward W. Dempsey, James S. McDonnell, and William H. Danforth.
