Birthday gift scrapbook, 1956.

The scrapbook titled "Philip Anderson Shaffer, September 20, 1956" commemorates a ceremony honoring Shaffer's 75th birthday and the creation of a fund for a lectureship in his honor, from which the oil portrait in the Shaffer Conference Room was commissioned. Photos, news releases, clippings, and a poster make up the first section. The scrapbook also contains letters and telegrams from initial contributors to the Shaffer lectureship and tributes to PAS sent to Alexis F. Hartmann, who evidently coordinated this feature of the celebration. The contents of each page of the scrapbook were placed in individual folders due to the deteriorating condition of the scrapbook (Box 18) and the original cover was retained (Box 20). However, the original pages were scanned to create a bound color facsimile of the original scrapbook (Box 17). Gift of Jane Shaffer Prince (Accession 1995-028).

These daybooks are arranged by month. The following data are recorded for each treatment or operation: patient name, date, operation, fee, paid, and remarks. Initials of the physician are added in a column (Dr.) in later years.

History of Barnes Hospital

Dr. Bradley's history of Barnes Hospital is an extensive manuscript, however, it is not a completed work. The author's death in 1973 cut short what were likely plans for a definitive history of the institution, and possibly its publication.

Scrapbooks about Alfred Goldman, 1895-1974.

This series includes two scrapbooks: Alfred Goldman Scrapbook, 1895-1973 (Scrapbook 1) and Memorial Scrapbook, Alfred Goldman 1973-1974 (Scrapbook 2). Scrapbook 1 was microfilmed in the Spring of 1974 and returned to Miriam Goldman. Scrapbook 1 contains photographs, programs, newspaper clippings, and letters from patients, colleagues, and friends. In rough chronological order from image 29. Correspondence with Carl V. Moore suggests that AG kept the first scrapbook himself. Scrapbook 1 is only available on microfilm. The contents of Scrapbook 2 include letters of condolence addressed to Miriam Goldman. The letters have been put into folders and have not been microfilmed. Accession 1975-014, 2006-005.

Ruth Silberberg photomicrographs, 1959-1975.

This series contains mounted photomicrographs which came to the archives in 5 notebooks. They include light and electron micrographs. Ruth Silberberg states in her oral history that the Silberbergs learned electron microscopy in 1959 so the electron micrographs in the series probably antedate 1959. Each photomicrograph is individually labeled with information such as mice strain (C57 or Dba), sex, age, hormone or other treatment with dose and frequency and other information concerning the microphotograph such as magnification. When the photomicrographs came to the archives, each subdivision of the notebooks was put in a folder and the subdivision labels were copied and became folder labels. Each folder was also given a VC number when the photographs came to the archives.
