The photograph was originally published in the October 18, 1937 issue of LIFE magazine. Typed caption underneath the photograph reads: "Allen Davis sleeps in the experimental cubicle while his brain waves are recorded in another room, 60 ft. away. Since Dr. Davis started his experiments in 1935, Allen has been a frequent subject. Not at all apprehensive, he enjoys the experience, is quite willing to lend his brain to his father at all times. He can talk to his father through the microphone hanging above the bed. The cubicle is screened with copper wiring to eliminate any stray electrical currents."
