Print preview View:

Program-Specific Guides, 1984-1994.

Guides in this series are designed to introduce patients to specific Jewish Hospital programs, events, and departments. It also includes patient guides to specific aliments. Unlike sub-series 4, the publications of this sub-series are specifically patient-targeted. Folders may contain individual or multiple items. Sorted alphabetically.

Professional Services Committee and Medical Component (Subcommittee) Meeting Minutes, Correspondence, and Records, 1956-1962.

The Professional Services Committee of the Board of Directors was composed of representatives of the Board of Directors, medical staff, and administration of the hospital, with the Medical Component subcommittee drawn from these members. The Medical Component reported its recommendations to the Professional Services Committee and the Board of Directors. Matters considered by the Medical Component in these records include, but are not limited to, new appointments to the medical staff; developments and changes in various medical departments; new and changing duties of the medical staff; and changes in admissions policies. C.V.s and letters of recommendations for applicants to the medical staff are included, as are lists of medical staff recommended or not recommended for reappointment. Specific issues discussed in these records include, but are not limited to, the admission of African American patients to the outpatient clinic, as well as the acceptance of the applications of African American doctors to the medical staff.

Medical Staff Alumni Association, 1960-1994.

The Medical Staff Alumni Association membership was made up of, “all physicians, dentists and medical administrators who have had at least one year post-graduate training exclusively at the Jewish Hospital of St. Louis,” with associate membership extended to “present members of the Jewish Hospital Medical Staff, and ancillary services, by invitation.” With some exceptions, the four binders in this series contain correspondence, invitations, and receipts related to the banquet thrown by the organization for its members.

Associates in Medicine, 1966-1995.

To quote a special report on the Associates, “the Associates is an educational membership organization sponsored by the Hospital’s Board, Auxiliary, and Medical Staff with an ultimate goal of winning friends and gaining present and future support.” Organized in 1968, the Associates members attended lectures, behind-the-scenes tours, panel discussion, and raised money for new hospital equipment. The sub-series includes photographs, programs, and administrative documents related to the organization’s event through the years 1966-1995. Also included are issues of the publication “AIM News Capsule,” as well as membership lists and by-laws.

Hospital Departments, 1988.

This sub-series includes brief informational publications which provide overviews of medical subsidiary departments and organizations of the hospital. These brochures are not necessarily patient-targeted. Some folders in this sub-series contain multiple brochures, while others contain individual brochures. Sorted alphabetically.

Histories, 1878-1987.

This sub-series includes brief historical overviews of both Jewish Hospital, as well as various St. Louis area medical institutions. Where the history is not specifically or solely focused on Jewish Hospital, Jewish Hospital may be mentioned or included in a larger overview of St. Louis area medicine, or the author of a history may be affiliated with Jewish Hospital in some way. The exception to this is the reprint of the 1878 Missouri Republican article on the Social Evil Hospital, which may be related to O.H. Elbrecht’s article on the Female Hospital (also included in this series), but which otherwise has no relation to Jewish Hospital. A majority of folders hold individual items. Sorted alphabetically.

General Patient Guides, 1939-1986.

This series includes brochures specifically targeted toward patients or relatives of patients of Jewish Hospital, and designed to convey or collect information related to they or their relative’s stay at the hospital. Items in this series include survey forms and maps as well as brochures and handbooks. Folders may contain individual or multiple items. Sorted alphabetically.

Photographic Timelines.

The timelines of this series touch describe briefly several key events or developments which occurred in the four spans of years covered. Each timeline marker includes a photograph. Multiple copies of the timelines are included in each folder. Sorted chronologically.

Official groups, 1958-1994.

Photographs in this sub-series portray individuals or groups of individuals connected with hospital departments or associated organizations. They are sorted alphabetically by group name, and then chronologically within groups names.

Joint Conference Committee Minutes, 1925-1959.

The body that produced these minutes was originally designated the Committee on Conference and Medical Matters, and was charged with directing "all medical matters affecting the interests of the Hospital."  Appointments to the ward service were a one significant responsibility.  The early part of the series contains medical staff rosters as well as minutes.  The name was changed to Joint Conference Committee beginning 7 June 1956.  The minutes for the meeting of 27 October 1957 state:  "The duties of the Committee are to examine and make recommendations to the Board of Directors on medico-administrative matters pertaining to the Hospital and its Medical Staff." The majority of the sub-series are three bound volumes of meeting minutes for the committee. Accession 1990-035.

Division of Child Psychiatry, 1955-1963.

Includes preliminary and final reports on recommendation for an in-patient child psychiatric facility at Jewish Hospital, Proposal for In-Patient and Out-Patient facilities, correspondence (1955-1960), and correspondence on closure of unit (November and December 1963).
